The Ile de Ré

You’ll be totally charmed by this island, just off the mainland, with its unspoilt natural environment. Its huge stretches of sand between the sea and the the sky, unusual little creeks and salt marshes all draw the tourists. Explore its isolated natural spaces on foot or by bike, marvelling at the coastal pine forests and the hollyhocks, with their riot of colours and spectacular views. Discover the picturesque little ports, the oyster farms and the vineyards, along with the island’s famous low houses with their grey or green shutters. Want to get away from it all and discover an unforgettable destination? The Île de Ré is the place to be!

Head for the island and step back in time. Inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Vauban's majestic fortifications on Saint-Martin-de-Ré are treasure troves of hidden secrets. Stroll to the Fort de la Prée à la Flotte, a unique part of our military heritage. And for nature lovers? Visit the Maison de la Dune at Portes-en-Ré, the Whale Lighthouse at Saint-Clément or the saltmarsh ecomuseum in Loix with its exhibitions and guided tours, guaranteed to fascinate kids and grown-ups alike. Its 100 km of cycle paths are ideal for roller-skating, rambling or cycling. A paradise for swimmers and water sports lovers – a holiday with a difference!

An exceptional terroir with high quality products and impressive expertise: take advantage of your holiday to discover the remarkable local cuisine and meet local farmers at the market. And don't miss the seafood and freshly caught fish, just like the traditionally farmed oysters. This extraordinary ‘white gold’ harvested over 460 hectares is used to season the Ile de Ré's famous potatoes. Famed for its sweet taste, it is an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée product. And why not try the rosé and pineau aperitifs and table wines while on holiday, in moderation of course!
